Overview

First announced in August 2012, the Volvo B5RLEH, also known as Volvo B5RH and Volvo B215RH, is a hybrid electric bus chassis manufactured by Volvo since 2013, initially only available in the Asia-Pacific region.

There is also a B215RH model for Latin America, manufactured by Volvo in Brazil, available as both low and high floor chassis.

SBS Transit

SBS Transit used to operate one demonstrator unit of the B5RLEH.

In 2014, SBS Transit received a 11.4 meter long B5RLEH for demonstration, bodied by Volgren. It is the second type of hybrid-electric bus to be operated by SBS Transit. As it was built to Australian specifications, it had to be granted an exemption from the Road Traffic Act for public service in Singapore, with the wheelchair ramp removed as it was not exempted to carry wheelchair-bound passengers.

The bus originally operated under a 1 year trial from 2014 to 2015, but the trial was extended for another year to 2016. At the end of the trial, the bus was returned to the dealer and shipped back to Australia.
